West African famine
According to Oxfam, more than 3.5 million people face a catastrophic food shortage in Niger, the second-poorest country in the world. Insufficient rain and locust infestations, combined with high food prices, have exacerbated already chronic needs. Hunger haunts millions more across other West African countries, including Mali, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso. Talk of free-trade, African despots, and the politics of giving seem to fade when people right now are living off leaves, roots, and wild berries. It is sad to note that this story is an old one already. Still, the emergency continues. You can donate via: https://secure.ga3.org/02/west_africa |
